What to Expect

Safe Atmosphere

Everyone who attends camp is unique and special. We recognize that each camper has emotional needs, so we give the time and attention necessary to insure that their stay at camp is fun, safe, and engaging, and we allow them the space to grow in faith in ways that are personal to them. We can’t guarantee that they won’t feel a little homesick from time to time, but we can assure that there will be a caring counselor always available to comfort and assist them.

Responsibility

We know that going to summer camp is often a big step for children and parents alike. We believe our responsibility is to offer a safe, exciting, and memorable faith experience for your child. Camp is a time to step away from the cell phone and devices, and clear away the distractions of everyday life. It is a place to experience the amazing beauty of our world, to connect with people from other places, and to take the time to learn and grow in faith.

Training

Our deans and counselors are carefully trained to make our camps a safe place for your child. Every camp is staffed with trained medical personnel and accredited lifeguards, and each staff member must undergo a thorough background check, as well as extensive training.

Faith Exploration

Michigan Area of United Methodist Camping programs are all about creating lifelong, life-changing memories for young people and adults in a safe, fun and caring environment.

Campers will look back at their summer and remember singing camp song; sensing the sounds, sights, and smells of nature;, creating new friendships; and discovering an ever-greater love for God in their hearts. Children will grow in self-confidence, resourcefulness, and gratefulness as they encounter a spiritual awakening that will unfold over a lifetime. Adults appreciate the time set aside to focus on their relationship with God, to explore faith and celebrate the unbound love God has for each of us.

Every camp program has a faith-based curriculum that is incorporated in various ways throughout each day.

Special Needs

Let us know if your camper has special dietary concerns, medical conditions or other considerations. Your camp director is available to discuss your needs and make sure your camper has the best experience!

What We Believe

The United Methodist Church is a 12.3-million-strong global church that opens hearts, opens minds and open doors through active engagement in the world. John Wesley and the early Methodists placed primary emphasis on Christian living, on putting faith and love into action. United Methodists believe the foundation of Christian living is faith in Christ. Faith is the central loyalty that gives purpose and direction to our lives. Christian faith is grounding our lives in the living God as revealed especially in Jesus the Christ.

This faith does not happen overnight. It’s a journey. Christian camp and retreat ministries provide an opportunity to explore faith in a busy, distracting world.
