Albright Park Property
Albright Park Camp & Retreat Center located in Reed City has been sold with final closing documents signed in January 2020. The Michigan Area United Methodist Camping Board of Directors has committed all funds from sales of camp properties to upgrades and renovations at its active sites.
With attention to its mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ and its vision to grow relationships through quality camps, the Camping Board dedicated part of the funds to immediate improvements at Wesley Woods Camp & Retreat Center (Dowling, MI) and Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat (Pentwater, MI), including:
Wesley Woods
• A new roof on the Lodge
• Completed painting on all rooms in the Retreat Center
• New flooring and interior painting throughout the Daisy-Trillium Lodge
• New electric service in Daisy-Trillium
Lake Michigan
• New roof and insulation for the Dining Hall
Additional funds will be allocated as the Board evaluates future needs and projects. Building a complete Master Plan for the organization is currently underway with Kaleidoscope, a nationally recognized firm that provides professional services to camps and retreat centers to help them thrive.
Albright Park had been closed since 2019 after years of falling enrollment and usage by rental groups. Summer camp programs for kindergarten through adults are offered at Lake Huron Retreat Center (Burtchville), Lake Michigan, and Wesley Woods. Two campgrounds provide opportunities for RV/tent and cabin camping: Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat and Lakeview Family Campground (Lakeview).
Churches, nonprofits, schools, families, teams and groups are encouraged to use these facilities throughout the year and participate in summer programming. Increased utilization will help the Board maintain and grow the camping ministry at these sites.
