Our Mission

Judson Collins Center is a place where children, youth and adults Discover who they are in the context of God’s love. It’s a place that helps them Grow in knowledge, awareness,  and reflection of that love. It’s a place that they can respond to God’s call to Serve their congregation, community, and their world.

Our History

Judson Collins Camp and Retreat Center was founded in 1952 as a United Methodist Camp. Before operating as a UMC children’s camp, the land was used by the fresh air society and was a part of Hayes State Park. The camp is named after Judson Dwight Collins, one of the first Methodist missionaries to China in 1847.

In 1950 the Methodist Church was looking for a site with potential that was close to Detroit. The camp property was rented for 2 years from Camp Mehai (which was run by the fresh air society). The camp was purchased in 1952 with a donation from the Judson Collins Memorial Fund. There are still a few buildings on site that date back to the Civilian Conservation Corp when they set up the state parks across our country.

For over 60 years, Judson Collins Center has been utilized by people of all ages of the United Methodist Church for resident camps and retreats.
