Why It’s Important

A message from Rev. George Ayoub

As the Executive Director of the Michigan Area United Methodist Camps and Retreat Centers, I am privileged to see first-hand, the lifelong impact of Christian camping on a person’s faith journey.

I am grateful to God for our sites, where thousands of children and adults experience Christ throughout the year. At camp we can affirm our faith or we can find Christ for the first time. Camp is truly a place for renewal, a place to make Christ the center of our lives.

However, our camps are faced with critical needs that must be addressed in order to grow this ministry. I invite you to join me in a special effort that will maintain and sustain the continued growth of our camping ministry.

The Changing Lives: The Fund for Christian Camping will provide funds for scholarships, improved on-site programming, and equip us for essential upgrades which will keep our facilities in excellent condition.

Your gift to this fund will enable more children to attend camp and will enable our sites to become a destination where families and churches can grow in faith, find new purpose in life and strength for the future.

A message from our Changing Lives Co-Chairs John and Deb Skinner

Christian camping changes lives. We know from first-hand experience the impact camping can have on a life because camping is in our blood.

Deb: I began attending camp as a teen, and it was there that I took Jesus Christ as my personal savior. I met John at camp, and we just celebrated 48 years of marriage! Camping has remained a huge part of our life. Our kids also attended camp, became counselors and even met their spouses there. We have become a family of seventeen, committed to living a faith-filled life for Christ – and it all started at camp.

John: In addition to my own camping experiences, for the past eleven years, I have been involved in Camp New Day, a camp for children who have a parent that is incarcerated. It has been so inspiring to see these kids being able to simply be kids with others who understand their circumstances.

We have both had the privilege to witness God changing lives through camping. We ask you to please join us in supporting Changing Lives: The Fund for Christian Camping.
