Disc Golf Is Coming to Lake Michigan

Become a Sponsor, Help Clear the Way for this Project

Families gather at Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat to draw closer together and spend time outdoors. Disc golf, one of the fastest growing sports in the world, provides a unique opportunity to combine family friendly recreation and outdoor enjoyment.

Installing a permanent, high quality disc golf course at Lake Michigan will give guests another leisure activity to enjoy together. “The family, or ‘ace’ course, will give all ages and abilities a fun activity that honors the beautiful landscape we have at Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat,” explained Site Director Erik Bengston. “The Professional/Amateur course we have designed will provide a wide range of challenging holes for all skill levels.”

An ace in disc golf refers to throwing a “hole-in-one” — one throw of the disc from the teepad into the basket. The first phase of the project that aims to be completed by May 2023 includes a nine-hole Family/Ace course and an 18- hole Professional/Amateur course. The Pro/Am holes range between par three and par four, meaning it should take three or four throws to get the disc into the basket. Disc golf is played much like golf. Though instead of a golf ball and clubs, players use a flying disc or Frisbee®.

Erik, a disc golf enthusiast himself, said, “We are super excited that the Lake Michigan disc golf course will be designed by well-known course designer Jim Schultz.” Jim is part of Eagles Wings Disc Golf, a nonprofit Christian organization that shares faith through the sport of disc golf.

To make this dream a reality we are asking Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat supporters/families to sponsor a hole to offset the cost of building the course and installing the equipment.
