Drop-Off Relief Supplies at Camps

In response to the recent hurricanes in Texas, Florida and the Caribbean, churches across the Michigan Area collecting supplies for Cleaning Buckets and Hygiene Kits for the United Methodist Committee on Relief. Those are the specific relief materials requested by UMCOR’s Midwest Mission Distribution Center (MMDC) in Chatham, Illinois at this time.

Michigan Area United Methodist Camping is providing seven of the drop-off sites throughout the state.

MMDC asks that materials NOT BE ASSEMBLED as buckets or kits. They want the supplies in bulk for assembly at their facility.

Here’s what to do:

  • Cleaning Bucket items include 5-gallon buckets with a lid, laundry detergent, liquid household cleaner, dish soap, sponges, clothesline, trash bags, etc. Click here for complete list.
  • Hygiene Kit items include hand towels, washcloths, combs, nail files or clippers, bath-size soap, toothbrushes, adhesive bandages, one-gallon resealable bags. Click here for specific requirements.
  • You can donate items in bulk off the lists of needed supplies and contribute them. MMDC will create kits out of your donations.

Area Disaster Coordinators for the Michigan Area of the United Methodist Church, Rev. Bob Miller and Dan O’Malley, request that donations be taken to these Michigan sites rather than transporting or mailing supplies to Chatham, IL. This allows effective coordination at the warehouse and volunteer labor needed to prepare materials for shipment to flooded areas.
