May 2020 Events Cancelled at Lake Michigan
Dear Friends of Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat,
As we continue watching the development of the COVID-19 virus around the world and our nation, we will continue to pray for healing of those affected and for the virus to subside quickly. One of our greatest desires is to be able to provide a safe environment for our campers and staff. We have no desire to help the virus spread and we will comply with all laws concerning social gatherings. To this end we will continue to monitor the Governor’s executive orders and seek advice on how to proceed with our 2020 summer plans.
Today, we announce these changes to our 2020 calendar:
OPENING VOLUNTEER WEEKEND May 2-3
Volunteer “opening weekend” has been cancelled. Opening weekend at Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat is a special time. Normally in less than 24 hours our camp transforms and comes to life. Last May we tracked over 1,000 volunteer hours opening and preparing our camp for it to receive guests. This work will still need to be done for us to open our camp however, we are not comfortable gathering so soon. Over the next few weeks, we will evaluate possibilities of volunteer opportunities and post those on Facebook.
PERE MARQUETTE CANOE TRIP May 22 – 25
This Young Adult Camp has been cancelled. We will look at options to possibly reschedule later this year and hope to offer again next summer.
HOME SCHOOL CAMP May 27 -29
This event has been cancelled for 2020 and we will reschedule for the summer of 2021.
At this time, we cannot announce a specific date to open for RV/tent/ cabin rentals due to existing federal and state stay-at-home orders. Once it has been announced that our camps can legally and safely open, we will evaluate our next steps and announce an opening date. Please understand, Lake Michigan Camp cannot open instantly: our wells have to be opened, treated and tested, our water heaters must be cleaned, treated and turned on, our facilities must be cleaned and disinfected and staff will need to be hired and in place. If you have a reservation in place and we are unable to open, you will be able to:
- Request a full refund
- Transfer your reservation to a later date
- Donate your funds to the camp
Summer Camp for Youth
Before final decisions are announced regarding our youth camps operations for 2020, we are awaiting further guidance from state and federal agencies regarding health and safety regulations.
Thank you for understanding the decisions that have been and will be made concerning our operations at Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat. We appreciate all your love and support and we know this is a special place for you and your family. Our prayer is that all our decisions will glorify God and His plans for Lake Michigan Camp & Retreat, and keep everyone safe.
